ACCESS Group Meeting - April

The next ACCESS Group meeting will be held on the 17 April, 12pm-2pm. Bronwyn Hicks has kindly offered to host the meeting at Brisbane City Council.

Bronwyn has suggested that we contribute a few dollars each (probably under $5) and she will organise for sandwiches and juice to be provided. We can have lunch / discussion at the start and following that look at the collection area.

Those attending the meeting are asked to meet in the Constance Street foyer. We will need to sign in at the Reception and be escorted to the meeting room.

Engineering Education Futures Forum

At the last ACCESS meeting Jocelyne Poirier informed us of the Engineering Education Futures Forum. The Forum will start on the evening of the 25 March and will conclude on the 28 March.

The aim of the Forum is:
- to bring together a group of key national and international engineering education stakeholders to consider the nature of engineering and engineering education in the 2015-2020 window.
- to present a series of wide-ranging 'vision statements' from key participants to help conceive the goals, curricula structure and implementation strategies for future engineering education.
- to design innovative curricular pathways supported by appropriate pedagogies for next-generation engineering programs that help address future graduate attributes as well as bring engineering science and practice into effective partnership.

Scirus search engine - for scientific information

The free scientific search engine Scirus provides access to websites, journals and other document sources in science, technology and the medical disciplines. Scirus filters non-scientific information. Search results are presented under three tabs ‘Journal sources’ ‘Preferred Web sources’ and ‘Other Web sources’. The ‘Advanced Search’ page provides a list of the ‘Journal sources’ and ‘Preferred Web sources’ indexed by Scirus.

Scirus was developed by Elsevier and is linked from the Compendex and Inspec databases on the Engineering Village platform. A full review of Scirus is available from the online journal Issues in Science and Technology Librarianship, Winter 2007.

DOAJ: Directory of Open Access Journals

The Directory of Open Access Journals covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Users may browse by discipline or search by journal title.
